Anthropic AI, the San Francisco-based developer of the Claude large language model and a chief rival to OpenAI, has announced a major expansion into Continental Europe with the opening of new offices in Paris, France, and Munich, Germany.

The move is part of a global growth strategy and comes as the European, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region has become Anthropic’s fastest-growing market. The run-rate revenue in the region has surged more than ninefold over the past year.
Strategic hubs for growth and policy
The new hubs in two of Europe’s largest economies will serve as crucial regional centers, complementing Anthropic's existing European offices in London, Dublin, and Zurich. The company stated that the European expansion is necessary to meet the accelerating demand for Claude, especially among major enterprises.
Commercial growth: Both Paris and Munich will be hubs for commercial expansion, partnership development, and sales across the DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) and EMEA South regions.
Target clients: Anthropic already counts major European companies like L’Oréal, BMW, SAP, and Sanofi as clients, using Claude for tasks ranging from writing computer programs to resolving network issues.
Policy collaboration: The expansion is also driven by the need to engage with local regulators and policymakers as the European Union implements its landmark AI Act, which will significantly influence the development and deployment of generative AI.
Tripling the workforce and new leadership
Anthropic is significantly increasing its commitment to the region, having already tripled its headcount in EMEA over the past year. The new offices will house teams spanning every aspect of the business, from research and engineering to sales and operations.
As part of the expansion, Anthropic has appointed new regional leadership, including Thomas Remy as the Head of EMEA South, based in the new Paris office, to oversee France, Italy, Iberia, the Middle East, and Africa.
The push into France and Germany, both among the world's top 20 countries for Claude usage per capita, highlights the intensifying competition among U.S.-based AI pioneers (like Anthropic and OpenAI) to secure market share and talent across the European continent.
